ClimateTech Movement Master Plan | Launch Note #1

Brian Kurtz, Co-Founder of ClimateTech.org   •    June 11, 2022

Transitioning to a regenerative society calls for the largest concerted mobilization effort in human history.

Innovative alternate sustainable technologies that empower us to decarbonize the economy, ‘ClimateTechnologies’, are on the verge of ubiquitously transforming every aspect of how we live, produce, consume and travel the world. The magnitude of this sweeping urgent call for rapid overhaul across industries is unprecedented. It’s ‘now or never’ according to the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC). The future beckons us to lead.

Unstoppable momentum is already underway. Global diplomatic efforts have successfully grown strong market demand for Climate Technologies as coalitions of governments and businesses race to actualize public pledges to mitigate global warming. Over 70+ countries, 1,200+ corporations, 1000+ cities, 1000+ academic institutions, and 400+ financial institutions have already committed to rigorous, expedited action to halve emissions by 2030 and set science-based targets for net-zero.

Aside from convincing social and environmental benefits, solving the climate crisis is one of the largest financial opportunities of our time, estimated to add $26 trillion to the global economy by 2030. Blackrock CEO, Larry Fink, recently predicted the next 1,000 unicorns, tomorrow’s industry leaders, will be ClimateTech companies. Corporate venture capital investment in this space more than doubled in 2021 to $23.2 billion, up from $10.1 billion in 2020. Each week Wall Street appears to announce a new billion+ dollar climate fund. Over the course of this ‘decisive decade’ for climate action,
ClimateTech is set to swallow the world.

The grand challenges of our time, cannot be solved by any one sector, industry or organization but require cross-sector coherence at scale. Sophisticated responses require harmonizing agendas of private sector innovators and investors with smart government policy and scientific rigor. At COP26 we initiated a discovery process with leaders across the industry to codesign an optimal enabling-environment and provide rocketfuel to the movement at large. Executives across the industry agree that timely connectivity, cross-pollination and collaboration across sectors is key to boost high-performance results. Yet the infrastructure needed to support this extraordinary scale of coordination is disjointed and fragmented, until now.

Read on to learn how we are unifying the movement of movements - to regenerate the Earth.

The ClimateTech industry must boom or the future is bust.
